In this episode (We tend to proceed before acknowledging), I explore navigating a relationship through marriage, tough career decisions, and intentions to grow a family. I talk to a friend, who’s been married for 7 years, and examine his journey towards marriage and how he and his wife have handled various challenges and adventures.
We discuss the sacrifices made for a long distance relationship and the collective critical decision making points that come up. We go further to talk through making the decision to move to be close to a partner before having real certainty in the relationship. We uncover the power of acknowledgement, especially as it pertains to your partner’s feelings. We talk through his decision to propose and trying to determine if she was the right person for him. We go deep in the internal evaluation of being prepared to be someone’s husband and ability to be a good husband. We highlight the lessons learned like having patience and that all issues won’t be resolved immediately as well as the continuous work marriage takes. He explains how important it is to work on yourself first, the various happiness levels he’s experienced in his marriage, and the moments when he had serious thoughts of filing for divorce.
